Four New Rescues Join the Plus One Movement

Join the Movement!
British Columbia's own Darford International adds four new rescues through Plus One Movement!
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: April 23rd, 2012, Vernon, BC.

Darford International, a pet food and treat company based in Vernon, BC, has added four new partners to its growing list of pet rescues. Through the Plus One Movement, an innovative program that encourages customers to "buy for one, care for two," dogs from these four rescues will now benefit from donations of food and treats.

The newly added animal rescues include Beagle Paws, Angel's Animal Rescue, Southeast Bloodhound Rescue and the Labrador Retriever Rescue of Florida, which brings the present day total to more than 20 organizations and corresponding chapters. In selecting its rescue partners, Darford evaluates a number of factors, however, the most important being that they are a registered charity, do not hold a dog control contract and are in genuine need of food. "We are so grateful to have become part of such a great program and appreciate everything that Darford has done for us. The best part of all of this is that we are receiving wholesome and nutritious products from a reputable company giving the often sick dogs what they need most and making this initiative that much more genuine and useful," says Lori Regal of the Southeast Bloodhound Rescue. "Since using the donated Zero/G food, our dogs have more energy, better coats, brighter eyes and have less gastric torsion issues, which is typical of bloodhounds."

Darford launched the Plus One Movement in 2010 in response to the 4 million dogs that are euthanized in Canada and the US every year due to a lack of food and room. "The number was appalling, and we knew we needed to help," says Darford founder and CEO Darcy Bomford. "The Plus One Movement has been created to do exactly that - help feed rescue dogs until they find new homes." To date, Darford has provided nearly 459,050 meals to rescue dogs across North America. As a result, rescue dogs are receiving a second chance and the rescues are thrilled to be part of this life-saving initiative.

Zero/G is a low-glycemic, grain-free and potato-free dry dog food that includes a balance of whole meats and meals as the first four ingredients. Zero/G's other ingredients include buckwheat, peas, lentils, chickpeas and a unique low-glycemic formula which keeps dogs fuller longer and helps stabilize blood sugar levels. Darford encourages all dog lovers to join the Plus One Movement and make a difference. Simply buy any packaged Darford treats or Zero/G dog food and log onto www.darford.com. Enter the Plus One Movement code on the back of the bag to donate a meal to a dog in need.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

April 17, 2012 Vernon, BC

The Plus One Movement, an innovative and life-saving initiative created by Darford International, was designed to feed rescue dogs across North America. It is based on the simple concept of "Buy for one, care for two" - and it's working! To date, more than 450,000 meals have been donated to rescues across North America, ensuring rescue dogs are fed a consistent diet of high-quality Zero/G food. The result? Rescue dogs are healthier, happier and more adoptable - and that means more dogs find homes and more lives are saved.

Testimonials about the quality of Darford's Zero/G food and the Plus One Movement are received on a regular basis. Just like this one from Suzanne Fitch, president of the Mid-Atlantic Basset Hound Rescue in Pennsylvania.

"George is a 12-year-old basset who is currently under the care of Rich and Ginger. Prior to our switching George to their care, George was hospitalized when he started vomiting in the late part of last year. Ultrasound showed he had developed obstructive bowel syndrome, which was further thought to be based upon allergies. Dr. Samuel Geller of Quakertown Vet Animal Hospital recommended a gluten-free, novel protein diet, which led me to advise him we had just the food for that - Darford Zero/G seafood. George has done wonderfully on the food, which includes not only his two main meals morning and evening, but also a "snack" of Darford before bedtime."

Join the Plus One Movement and help us feed more rescue dogs across North America. Simply enter the code on the back of the bag into the "Redeem and Donate" page on either website: www.Darford.com or www.ILoveAllDogs.org and select the rescue of choice; or choose "any dog in need."
He was diagnosed with refractory idiopathic epilepsy. He experienced cluster seizures and was hospitalized in intensive care on two occasions in order to "load" the meds. At present, Max is on 2 grains of phenobarbitol (Pbs) 2x/day & 5 Mls of Potassium Bromide (KBr) once a day, all taken with food. Although the clusters were initially 5 at a time (spread out over 30 or so hours) it seems the meds have reduced this to a single seizure or sometimes two.

Starting in late Fall 2011 and continuing into winter, Max started having seizures every other week. We tried increasing his meds, but Max could not tolerate the increased dosage--he was more or less sedated and could barely walk. He also has a problem with his rear leg cratering on him. Consideration was given to trying some of the newer meds, such as zonisamide. However, we have deferred this decision based on discussion with our vet. Instead, we have changed his diet to Darford Zero-G seafood-based kibble mixed with diced canned green beans (salt free) and grated carrot, along with a B complex vitamin supplement that is also grain and soy- free, but does contain thiamine. His meals also include poached chicken or fish. So far, so good--no seizures for a couple of weeks. And he has also lost some weight which he really needed to do, which has also helped his ability to walk.

After Max has a seizure, the foster home typically gives him pasta with unsalted butter. On the rare occasion when they don't have some on hand, we substitute vanilla ice cream with either honey or karo corn syrup. This helps restore his blood sugar level and thereby speeds his recovery. Max has had numerous blood tests and a urine bile test. All results profile a healthy hound--except for the recurrent seizures.

We recently were contacted about Roscoe, another basset who was adopted last year to a couple in Connecticut, who is experiencing seizures. This weekend, Max's foster dad will be delivering a supply of the Darford Zero-G seafood version to the adoptive home to see if this will also help Roscoe. We are confident that it will in conjunction with proper medications.

Rich and Ginger Reynaud, the foster home for Max, state:

"Quite frankly, we feed our entire pack of 6, including the 3 special needs fosters this fish-based Darford and we're beginning to swear by this stuff. It seems to have helped Max with his seizure activity; Lulu isn't as itchy & hasn't developed those raw red hairless areas; & George's irritable bowel syndrome seems under control."

George is a 12-yr old basset who is currently also under the care of Rich and Ginger. Prior to our switching George to their care, George was hospitalized when he started vomiting in the late part of last year. Ultrasound showed he had developed obstructive bowel syndrome, which was further thought to be based upon allergies. Dr. Samuel Geller of Quakertown Vet Animal Hospital recommended a gluten-free, novel protein diet, which led me to advise him we had just the food for that - Darford Zero-G seafood. George has done wonderfully on the food, which includes not only his two main meals morning and evening, but also a "snack" of Darford before bedtime.

LuLu is also a senior basset who displayed allergic reactions, both seasonal and to various foods, but has done well on the Darford seafood kibble. As Rich and Ginger stated, LuLu has not developed the raw spots and is less itchy than she had been.

Thank you to Darcy and the folks at Darford for donating the food that enables us to help the hounds of Mid-Atlantic Basset Hound Rescue.

Darford International, a pet food and treat company based in Vernon, BC, has created a movement to provide high-quality food to thousands of dogs in need. Through the Plus One Movement, Darford's innovative program that encourages consumers to "buy for one, care for two," rescue dogs across North America are benefitting from Darford's award-winning Zero/G food and treat donations.

Darford launched the Plus One Movement in 2010 when it learned that 4 million dogs are euthanized in Canada and the US every year due to a lack of food and room. "The number was appalling, and we knew we needed to help," says Darford founder and CEO Darcy Bomford. "The Plus One Movement has been created to do exactly that - help feed rescue dogs until they find new homes."

Since then, Darford has provided nearly 350,000 meals to rescue dogs across North America. Currently the Plus One Movement assists 14 rescues, but that number is growing quickly. As a result, rescue dogs are receiving a second chance and the rescues are thrilled to be part of this life-saving initiative.

"We appreciate everything that Darford has done for us; we've had a very tough few months and this has been a HUGE help, "says Cheryl Ovenshire of the English Bulldog Rescue of Georgia. "We are so pleased with the quality of the food and all the dogs are doing wonderfully on it. Their energy levels are great, their skin and coats are doing well and they easily made the change to Zero/G...we recommend Zero/G to all our bulldog network and adoptive families!"

It's easy to get involved in the Plus One Movement and make a difference. Jan 3, 2012 Los Angeles: EJ Rescue owner, English John and film maker, Jon Morris team up with Darford's Plus One Movement to film and document a dog's rescue story. Darford sponsored EJ Rescue to transport 30 dogs from LA to Lethbridge Alberta.

The Journey began Jan 3, 2012 - Jon and English John left Los Angeles on January 4th from with 30 dogs to deliver to Prairie Pitbull Rescue in Lethbridge Alberta. EJ Rescue arrived in Vernon on Friday January 6th at 8 AM! (1500 miles in two days). EJ Rescue and team then proceeded to drive to Lethbridge, Alberta and back to Vernon BC on Saturday January 7th! In that time, the Darford & Plus One Movement team were able to "brand" the EJ Rescue Van to get them on the road again for Sunday morning. (A special thanks to Jeff from Titan Printing coming in on his day off)

EJ Rescue found homes for all 30 dogs including a real sweetheart named "Edmund" who was an hour away from being euthanized in a Los Angeles shelter.

English John and his team have driven back to LA with their new Plus One Movement look.
EJ Rescue and their team are keen to help us as much as possible in the LA market.

Thanks again everyone for helping.

Announcing the Plus One Movement

In conjunction with the Company's new brand design, Darford International Inc. is proud to introduce the Plus One Movement, aimed at supplying fresh quality food to abandoned dogs waiting for a new home.

The Plus One Movement works this way:
Attached to every Darford box of treats and food is an extra donation meal specifically designed for the customer to give to a dog in need. The donation pack contains one meal of the Company's Zero/G dog food. The customer will have many donation method options, including a hamper at the point of purchase, to be collected by a local animal shelter.

Darcy Bomford, Darford founder and CEO, sees The Plus One Movement as a way to help the dogs that our society chooses to throw away. "With over 4 million dogs euthanized every year in Canada and the US, we simply had to do something."

The program is designed to empower the Company's customers to actively donate, and tangibly do some good in their local community.

This is seen by the Company as a win-win. The more product Darford sells, the more dog rescues and abandoned dogs Darford can help, increasing brand preference and awareness of the problem.

The Plus One Movement will be unveiled concurrently both online and at the Global Pet Expo in Orlando, Florida, March 25th to 27th at the Darford booth # 1388 and initially will include approximately 3,000 retailers that carry the Darford brand in Canada and the US.
